Stickers on the Seat - Potty Training Tip

Below is a link to a blog post I happened to stumble across while surfing the Internet. I love this mother’s attitude!

She has made a couple of points that I love:

1. The second you put a diaper back on your child, they will forget everything they learned.

AND…

2. Toilet training doesn’t last forever - like pregnancy, it feels like an eternity but will be over eventually!

One of the comments after the post is from a reader who suggests letting your toddler put a sticker on the actual toilet seat when they use it. This is a unique twist on the standard sticker chart and might be a little more motivational for kids. What child doesn’t like to destroy property??? I love the idea. Just figure that the eventual $20 for the toilet seat replacement is an investment in your child’s future!

Potty Training "Advent Calendar"

A significant part of The Potty Boot Camp involves “convincing” your child to stay seated on the toilet for periods of a few seconds to up to five minutes. I am often asked by parents how to accomplish this: Bribes? Blackmail? Threats? Rewards? My answer to this question is: Yes. All of the above! Unfortunately, we just need to do whatever it takes to get the job done. The Potty Training Rewards product is just one of many incentive-based toilet training items. The child pushes a button to hear a congratulatory message, picks a door, and gets a reward. This helps the child to be actively involved. The “mystery” of what reward is coming next will hopefully help the toddler to have enough motivation to sit on the potty again….and again…and again!
